Setting Xbox up on DMZ Zone
Hey guys. This is a basic guide to set your Xbox on the DMZ zone in your router.
What is DMZ...its a de-militarized zone, so what ever address allocated to it, is not subject to router firewall restrictions. Meaning you get a open NAT, plus no monitoring from your router.
1: You need to find out you routers address, ie 192.168.0.1. In Windows in the search type "cmd" and enter, then a command prompt dos style box opens, type "ipconfig" and it shows you your network settings, including the pc running it and the router it is connecting to, plus your internet gateway which is usually the same as the routers address.
2: Log into your router, find the DMZ option in its menu and allocate a fixed IP address to it, ie 192.168.0.50, picking an address that will not likely get chosen by any other device. So if you have 5 computers on a network, choose an IP address after 6, 1 is the router then the 5 machines unless they have static or manual address's. So an address like 192.168.50 is likely to never be used by any other device.
3. Once you have created and saved an address to you DMZ zone in your router, now boot up your xbox, go to its network settings. Change your xbox to manual settings using the IP address you assigned to the DMZ zone. That address is the Xbox's IP address. Add manual subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and gateway address is the same address as your router. Then in the DNS servers settings, add the primary DNS Server address as your routers address and leave the secondary address blank. Save these settings, reboot your router and your xbox and test your xbox connections.
As an example my router is 192.168.0.1 so i would set DMZ to 192.168.0.50 Xbox manual settings would look like these...
Xbox address IP Address : 192.168.0.50
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers
Primary DNS : 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS : 0.0.0.0
Router address vary from 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1, 192.168.0.254, 192.168.1.254, 192.168.2.254 to 10.0.0.2 Remember to save all your settings before trying this, just in case it does not work for you, but it should. Good luck, any questions feel free to ask!
